c.1900 Children's Victorian Green Sand Pail with Bail

c.1900 Children's Victorian Green Sand Pail with Bail

Early, green chromolithographed children's tin litho sand pail with original bail. Unmarked, but definitely Victorian era.

The toy features highly embossed images of three children, two boys and a girl, with their dog digging for clams at the beach. Two sea gulls are facing the children. It shows the girl holding something while trying to coax the gulls closer. The boys holding their clam shovels and the dog look on.

Fancy scrollwork was embossed all along the top and bottom edges.

The embossed details were colored an iridescent gold against a russet, or cinnamon background. Fine details were filled in with green. The interior is brass finished. The bail was also brass finished although most of it has worn away. The bottom plate was originally polished tin.

The bail is tapered and reinforced with a raised embossed ridge and has beads on either end.

Size: 4-3/8" tall. 5" including bail. 3" base diameter. 4¼" opening.
